Our Story

In 1911 Michael O'Neill, a man from Tipperary, came to Dublin on the lookout for a suitable pub to purchase. After careful consideration he chose Great Brunswick Street in Dublin 2 (now Pearse St). Located between the bustling docks & the busy train station at Westland Row it had the perfect mix of dock workers & travellers for his business to thrive at that time. These were politically turbulent times in Ireland and the immediate area was a hive of rebel activity. Tipperary rebels Dan Breen & Sean Treacy often sought shelter above his pub, they were joined at times by Michael Collins & others during the War of Independence (1918-1922). From those early days he grew his business which has sustained four generations of the O'Neill family. Today, Hugh, Gerry & Maurice O'Neill Jr carry on his vision by welcoming patrons from all over the world. Very few family firms last over 100 years, so we salute our forefathers for their tenacity in keeping this business going through those difficult times, especially Michael for his wise choice all those years ago.
